No, not for the tracks covered by your MoosBox direct licence. The MoosBox catalogue is cleared for commercial use through direct licence agreements. This means you do not need to pay PRS for Music or PPL again for the tracks included in the MoosBox service. This applies only to the MoosBox catalogue. It does not cover Spotify, YouTube, radio, mainstream music services or any third-party music source. Your Licence Certificate is available in your Manager Area and can be kept on file or shown if needed.

2. Is MoosBox legal for UK shops and restaurants?

Yes. MoosBox is designed for UK shops, restaurants and business premises that need fully licensed background music for commercial use. MoosBox operates under a direct licensing model. The tracks included in the MoosBox catalogue are either owned, controlled or licensed directly through non-exclusive agreements, with traceability and timestamping to support lawful use in public performance. This model is aligned with the principles of direct licensing and rights management reflected in EU Directive 2014/26/EU, the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, and, as an additional international reference, the ASCAP Compendium regarding direct licensing. MoosBox licence documentation is available for business use and applies only to the MoosBox catalogue. It does not cover Spotify, YouTube, radio, mainstream music services or third-party music sources.

3. What happens if I get inspected by PRS for Music or PPL?

If you receive a visit or request from PRS for Music or PPL, you can show your MoosBox Licence Certificate and refer to the direct licence terms covering the MoosBox catalogue. Your licence documentation is available in your Manager Area. Our team can also support you with the information needed to clarify that the music played through MoosBox is covered by direct licence documentation. The certificate applies to the MoosBox catalogue only and does not cover music played from other sources.

4. Does the MoosBox catalogue take the UK Online Safety Act into account regarding explicit content?

Yes. MoosBox can apply clean selection criteria for businesses that need a more cautious music profile, helping avoid tracks with explicit, violent or context-inappropriate lyrics. This is part of our editorial and catalogue selection process. It can be useful for brands, family-friendly environments, workplaces, clinics, hospitality spaces and businesses that want safer background music. This does not replace any specific legal obligations that may apply to the customer’s own website, platform, communication channels or digital activity under UK law, including online safety rules where applicable.
